Bhutan, what a place! The world has been missing out on this gem in the Himalayas, but it’s finally opening up to explorers like you and me. It’s a rare treat, you know, with the mountains towering high and the people so proud of their traditional dress. But Bhutan isn’t just any ordinary tourist destination. It’s a kingdom of preservation, where the people in charge have been keeping the environment and culture intact for generations. You’ll find peace in Bhutan. It’s like steppin’ back in time to a land untouched by modernity, where the mountains are untainted and the people’s hearts are pure gold. You won’t find another place like this on this earth.

And the best part? The Bhutanese are rolling out a plan to keep it that way. They’re stickin’ to the “High Value, Low Volume” way of tourism, where visitors get what they want without disrupting the land and its people. And why visit Bhutan, you ask?  There’s a multitude of reasons- first and foremost, it’s a natural beauty. The Himalayas rise up and embrace you, like old friends comin’ to give you a hug. The air is fresh and clean, the rivers run clear, and the forests are alive with the sounds of birds and beasts.

And then there’s the culture. The Bhutanese people have a rich history and unique traditions that have been passed down through the ages. You’ll see it in their architecture, clothing, and daily lives. It’s a special thing to witness, and you won’t find it anywhere else. Let’s not forget the peace. There’s a serenity in Bhutan that’s hard to describe. Maybe it’s the lack of commercialization, or the deep respect for the environment and each other. You’ll feel whatever it is the moment you step foot in this magical kingdom.

Finally, there’s the satisfaction of knowing you’re supporting responsible tourism. The Bhutanese government has put measures in place to ensure the country remains unspoiled and the culture remains intact. Your visit helps support that mission and keeps Bhutan the rare and special place that it is.

So pack your bags explorers, and head on over to Bhutan. It’s a journey worth taking, we guarantee it.

    1. Day 1 Arrival at Park- Transferi to Thimpu

Ah, the flight to Bhutan, my dear wanderers! Your journey begins with a soaring adventure over the mighty Himalayas, taking in the breathtaking views of some of the world’s tallest glacial peaks. The Paro valley greets you with its forested hills and the Pa Chhu river winding through the valley, as the Paro Dzong and Ta Dzong stand tall atop the hills above the town – a marvel to witness. Elite Explorer representative awaits you upon your arrival at the airport to guide you on this mystical journey.

Following some rest in Paro, we’ll embark on a one-hour drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, through the Paro and Thimphu river. At 2320 meters, the heart of Bhutan beats with the sounds of this magical capital – the busy shops, bazaars, and photogenic citizens in their traditional attire will welcome you with open arms. On the way, we will stop to admire the Tamchhog Lhakhang, the hereditary place of worship for Bhutan’s iron bridge builder. As it gets dark, you can walk around the town and feel yourself immersed in the spirit of this enchanted capital.

    2. Day 2 Thimpu sightseeing

A day at Thimpu, our first stop will be the National Memorial Chorten, built in memory of the third king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Here, you’ll be mesmerized by the beautifully painted walls and intricately crafted statues that offer a deep insight into Buddhist philosophy. Followed by Changangkha Temple, one of the oldest temples in the Thimphu valley, and the Drupthob Monastery, a nunnery offering stunning views of the town and Tashi Choe Dzong.

We’ll continue to the Folk Heritage Museum, a replica of a medieval farmhouse, which showcases Bhutan’s rich textile heritage. Witness the old collections and displays of vegetable dyes and materials used for textiles. Then visit the unique Traditional Hospital, Handicrafts Emporium, visit the weekly market,  Memorial Chorten, the National Library, and the School of Traditional Arts.  If you prefer, you can visit the historic Simtokha Dzong, one of the oldest fortresses in Bhutan, or the huge statue of Buddha Dordenma, which offers a panoramic view of the Thimphu valley.

    3. Day 3 Thimpu- Paro and Paro Sightseeing

After breakfast, we will depart for Paro. Once there, we will embark on a cultural tour of the Paro valley by visiting the magnificent Paro Rinpung Dzong, a prime example of Bhutanese architecture. Next, we will visit the National Museum, which was formerly housed in Ta Dzong. The Ta Dzong is a unique circular building, shaped like a conch shell, built on a hilltop to protect the Rinpung Dzong and the Paro valley during times of war. Sadly, an earthquake in 2011 damaged the Ta Dzong, but the contents of the museum were relocated to a nearby building. Here, you can admire a rich collection of Bhutanese artifacts including costumes, religious paintings, weapons, textiles, and a remarkable collection of Bhutanese stamps.

If we also have the opportunity to see local artisans demonstrating their traditional wood-turning skills and even try our hand at it. In the late afternoon, we will visit a local farmhouse where you can experience traditional Bhutanese village life, relax in a hot stone bath, and learn some Dzongkha. Your host family will also entertain you with the narration of Bhutanese folktales.

    4. Day 4 Hike to Tiger Nest Monastery

Embark on a day hike to the iconic ‘Tiger’s Nest’, the sacred Taktshang monastery that perches on the rock face 900 meters above the valley floor. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated for three months. The site is considered one of Bhutan’s most revered places of worship, attracting pilgrims from not only Bhutan but also neighboring Buddhist nations. We’ll take a break for lunch at the Taktsang cafeteria and enjoy a stunning view of the monastery. On the return journey, we’ll stop by Dumtse Lhakhang, a temple constructed by the renowned iron bridge builder, Thangtong Gyalpo.

    5. Day 5 Departure from Paro

Flying from Paro to Kathmandu and witnessing the majestic beauty of the Himalayas will be one of the best moments for you. You’ll be soaring above deep valleys and snow-capped peaks, and seeing the landscape change from Bhutan’s lush green valleys to Nepal’s rugged terrain while experiencing the transition from one country to another and the gradual change of the landscape. And, when you finally land in Kathmandu, you’ll be greeted by the vibrant city surrounded by the Himalayas.

    Can I customize the tour?

Yes, you can. Simply let us know your preferences either by email, WhatsApp, or phone.

I heard smoking is not allowed. Is it true?

Bhutan is the only nation in the world where it is illegal to produce or sell tobacco. So, according to the 2010 Tobacco Control Act of Bhutan, it is illegal to smoke everywhere in the nation. However, you are only permitted to bring a specific quantity of cigarettes into the nation, and certain indoor pubs and hotels have designated smoking areas.

    How is the weather there?

The weather in Bhutan is famously erratic, and the prediction frequently seemed to be incorrect. It rained while the forecast predicted bright skies and vice versa. Pack layers and be ready for various weather conditions throughout the day, especially if you’re trekking of any kind because the weather can change quickly at altitude.

Is Bhutan at a High Altitude?

All flights into Bhutan land at Paro, which is located over 7,000 feet above sea level. Bhutan has several climbs that rise beyond 13,000 feet, which offers stunning vistas but may also make you feel sick from the altitude if you aren’t acclimated. Pack aspirin for headaches and speak with your doctor about if you might need a prescription for a drug that might help you acclimate to the altitude.

How is the condition of the road?

Even though Bhutan is almost finished with its modern, two-lane paved national highway, you may still run into lots of dirt roads, one-way streets, hairpin twists, and everything from cows to dogs relaxing in the center of the road. When planning your itinerary, bear in mind that traveling typically takes longer than it would at home. You should also include motion sickness medication if you anticipate needing it.

Is meat allowed it being the Buddist kingdom?

Bhutan is a Buddhist nation; hence, there are no slaughterhouses there, and all of its meat is imported mostly from India. Additionally, only catch-and-release fishing is permitted. Fortunately, the vegetarian cuisine in the area is fantastic, so there are lots of Bhutanese specialties to try especially if you like chilies.

What do I pack to wear?

You must cover your arms and legs to enter any dzongs (fortresses), cultural sites, or monasteries. Bring something modest but dressy if you’re going to a festival to show respect.

Are ATMs and POS widely available?

You may swap US dollars at the airport or your accommodation, so bring cash just in case. Similarly, most businesses in Bhutan accept any form of payment, although you might get a change in the local currency.
